AMIS stands for "Anterior Minimally Invasive Surgery" and is a method of hip replacement surgery that accesses the hip through a small incision on the front of the thigh. Unlike traditional methods that access the hip from the side or back, the AMIS method allows for a quick recovery, less pain and less disruption to muscle tissue.

With the AMIS hip, the muscle is not severed but rather pushed apart using a special technique to gain access to the hip joint. This can minimize pain and bleeding during surgery and shorten recovery time after surgery. In addition, the AMIS method can reduce the risk of complications such as dislocations or nerve damage.

However, it is important to note that not every patient is suitable for the AMIS hip. Suitability for this method depends on various factors, such as the patient's age, general health and the severity of hip osteoarthritis. A careful assessment of the individual risks and benefits should always be carried out with the treating doctor before a hip replacement operation.
