“Doctor, I can dislocate my hip myself”
External hip snapping (Coxa saltans externa) in a dancer - the treatment is always conservative at first. In very rare cases, surgery is necessary. The patients, usually young women, have the feeling as if their hip is "dislocating" and the symptoms can be very unpleasant for those affected.
The iliotibial tract “jumps” over the greater trochanter. This is usually asymptomatic. In rare cases, it can also be associated with severe symptoms.
Physiotherapy, independent stretching and manual therapy are the first choice. Surgery should only be considered if conservative treatment has failed. Endoscopy with tractus plastic surgery or, in severe cases, a bone realignment operation can be considered.
