hip osteoarthritis and back pain
When the hip joint no longer functions properly, other joints and muscles in the body can adapt to absorb the load. This can lead to other areas of the body becoming overloaded and pain and discomfort developing.
The lumbar spine (LS) and the sacroiliac joint (SI joint) are particularly affected.
To minimize these effects, it is important to improve the mobility of the hip joint. Regular physical activity, such as targeted hip joint training or sports such as swimming or cycling, can help to strengthen the muscles in the hip area and improve mobility.
In addition, special physiotherapy exercises can also help improve hip joint mobility and reduce pain.
It is also important to reduce the load on the lumbar spine by maintaining good posture, aiming for weight loss (if overweight), avoiding lifting heavy objects and ensuring ergonomic work and sleeping environments. However, if the pain and movement restrictions cannot be sufficiently alleviated despite conservative therapy, an artificial hip joint can be considered.
