Dr. Alexander Moser is a national and international expert in the field of hip surgery and is therefore your first port of call if you are looking for an experienced orthopedic surgeon in Berlin. His core competencies include hip endoprosthetics, joint-preserving hip operations and, above all, hip arthroscopy, which is only offered by very few specialized doctors in Germany. Using the most modern medical procedures in joint surgery, muscle-sparing techniques and the shortest possible inpatient stay, Dr. Moser helps you regain more mobility, freedom from pain and enjoyment of life.

Preparation for hip surgery Berlin: diagnostics and advice
Many medical facilities in this country only offer hip arthroplasty (artificial hip joint). This means that many patients are often advised to have a prosthesis too quickly. Dr. Moser, on the other hand, is not only a specialist in hip arthroplasty (hip prostheses, hip replacements), but also in conservative therapies and joint-preserving hip operations.
Dr. Moser's patients include many young athletes. Hip pathologies are very common in people who are active in sports, but very few doctors can treat them appropriately. In order to find the right treatment for each individual and to be able to provide targeted advice, it is important to have an overview of the entire spectrum of hip surgery. First, an examination by a specialist provides the crucial information about which anatomical structure is diseased or injured. Based on this, Dr. Moser, as an experienced orthopedic surgeon in Berlin, offers his patients the optimal treatment method so that they can play their favorite sport, dance, laugh and enjoy life again as quickly as possible without pain and without functional limitations.
Conservative therapy
Dr. Moser always tries to exhaust conservative (non-surgical) measures and avoid hip surgery. Many diseases and injuries in the hip region can be treated well conservatively. On the other hand, delayed surgical treatment can also cause lasting damage to the joint, which can then only be treated to a limited extent surgically. For this reason, extensive diagnostics and consultation beforehand are so crucial.
Depending on the findings, pain and discomfort are initially alleviated with gentle measures. This slows down the progression of the disease, but the underlying disease cannot always be cured in this way.
Non-surgical therapeutic measures include:
- Modification of the activity after careful consultation
- physiotherapy (including trigger point therapy)
- physical therapy
- shock wave therapy
- bandages
- Injections with cortisone, hyaluronic acid, PRP etc.
- drug-based pain therapy
- medicinal anti-inflammatory drugs

If the hip joint is in advanced wear, the implantation of an artificial hip joint (hip prosthesis) is considered and discussed with the patient. At sportorthopaedie.berlin, only the highest quality implants are used, which guarantee the best function and have a long service life. The sliding pairs used (ceramic-ceramic or ceramic-polyethylene sliding pairs) have as little wear as possible. These hip endoprostheses (artificial hip joints) are very durable, which means that follow-up operations are avoided. Patient satisfaction with these prostheses is particularly high.

2. Hip surface replacement
With hip surface replacement (according to Mcminn, “cap prosthesis”),
only the diseased sliding surface (cartilage on the femoral head and the acetabulum)
is replaced. The bone is largely preserved. This procedure is used for
sports enthusiasts. Almost all sports can be performed again after
the implantation of the surface replacement. The
functional results after surface replacement are very good.
2. Joint-preserving hip surgery
Joint-preserving hip surgery plays an important role, especially in the care of young adults with hip injuries and the threat of premature joint wear. It corrects misalignments or deformities in order to improve the biomechanics of the affected joint and counteract wear. Joint-preserving hip surgery includes minimally invasive open hip eration, pelvic realignment (PAO periacetabular realignment osteotomy), femoral realignment and hip arthroscopy (hip joint endoscopy), which is discussed in more detail below.
Hip arthroscopy Berlin (hip joint endoscopy)
In modern hip surgery, most joint-preserving measures are now carried out using hip arthroscopy. Dr. Moser is an expert in the field of hip arthroscopy both nationally and internationally. In this country, only very few doctors specialize in this method. Hip arthroscopy in Berlin requires only two small skin incisions of around one centimeter. A small camera and special working instruments are inserted into the hip joint via these surgical accesses. With this minimally invasive approach, Dr. Moser treats malformations and changes to the hip joint gently and with the shortest possible hospital stay. Arthroscopy of the hip joint is suitable for the following indications, among others:
bony changes to the pelvis and thigh bones (e.g. femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)/hip impingement, cam impingement, pincer impingement, subspine impingement)
damage to the labrum/labrum tear (severe pain in the groin and/or hip, dislocation of the hip joint)
injury to the femoral head ligament/ligamentum capitis femoris tear (cause: dislocation or dislocation of the joint)
beginning hip arthrosis (beginning coxarthrosis, coxarthrosis)
chondromatosis (benign joint tumor with loose joint bodies)
hip joint inflammation and hip joint effusion
femoral head necrosis (in certain cases)
unclear Hip pain/unclear hip joint pain

After the operation – recovery and healing process
Dr. Moser's patients are usually mobilized again just a few hours after hip surgery in Berlin. Minimally invasive hip surgery is usually associated with significantly less pain after the operation than with conventional surgery. Early mobilization is important to support the healing process. The hospital stay for a hip prosthesis is around three to five days and for a hip arthroscopy around two to three days. During this time, the healing process and the patient's well-being are regularly monitored.
The hospital stay for the implantation of a hip endoprosthesis is usually followed by a rehabilitation measure, which can be carried out on an inpatient or outpatient basis depending on the individual findings and after consultation with the doctor. This is not necessary for a joint-preserving procedure (especially hip arthroscopy). However, physiotherapy exercises should be started early here too.
Prognosis after hip surgery in Berlin
Thanks to the gentle and modern minimally invasive procedures, the recovery and convalescence times are significantly shortened compared to the standard procedures. Due to the high quality standards and the extensive specialization of Dr. Moser and the experienced team, the prognosis for hip pain and hip problems is usually good.
