The prevalence of hip injuries
in kickboxing:
The prevalence of hip injuries in kickboxing: an analysis of hip impingement and early hip joint wear
Introduction:
Hip injuries are a common consequence of intense sporting activity, particularly in combat sports such as kickboxing. These injuries can have long-term effects on athletes' performance and quality of life. This report examines the prevalence of hip injuries in kickboxing, particularly hip impingement and early hip joint degeneration, and their impact on athletes.
Hip impingement in kickboxing:
Hip impingement, also known as femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), occurs when abnormally shaped hip bones rub against each other during certain movements, causing pain and limitations. In kickboxing, repeated rotations and impacts can lead to overstressing of the hip, which increases the risk of hip impingement. The mobility of the hip joint is primarily determined by the bony shape of the two joint partners (femoral head and acetabulum). If mobility is restricted by the bones, a better range of motion cannot necessarily be achieved even with intensive stretching. If attempts are made to increase hip mobility despite unfavorable bony conditions, this can lead to damage to the hip.
