How is hip dysplasia treated surgically?
The most modern surgical treatment for hip dysplasia is periacetabular osteotomy (PAO).
PAO according to Søballe/Ganz is a further development of the minimally invasive PAO with rectus preservation. With the Søballe method, no muscle attachment is removed. The procedure is therefore somewhat more demanding. The origin of the rectus femoris and sartorius at the spina iliaca ant.iInferior and superior are protected. The nervus cutaneus femoris lateralis runs through the surgical field and is exposed and protected.
I have been using the PAO according to Søballe/Ganz for over 10 years. I was able to learn the procedure directly from Kjeld Søballe in Aarhus and Dr. Rribas in Barcelona.
